Learning About Scribing!
The Artsedex team and a group of young people learned some visual techniques for telling stories and narratives.
We did some Day in the Life drawings, told stories about made up creatures, and made drawings about the sights found in Margate!
The Artsedex team and a group of young people learned some visual techniques for telling stories and narratives last week. This gives us a powerful tool to express stories and opinions that might be harder to tell simply with words.
On our first day, the team gathered and met with writer and artist Una, who guided us through a series of drawing activities. We built a vocabulary of objects, and found ways to draw them in short periods of time. Everyday objects became anthropomorphic, and we soon developed comic strip panels of detailed stories.
The second day was a chance for young people to have a go at scribing. They were guided by Una through the same activities the team had done the previous day, and explored some personal stories - which brought out lots of collaboration, sympathy and kindness towards one another.
Finally, on the third day both the team and the group of young people from the previous workshops met together to put into practice these new ways of communicating with each other. The young people took the team on a guided tour of Margate, which rounded off with a group drawing of the collective experiences.
Enjoy our scribbles!
