Cherelle
Visual Arts Lead
I'm a visual artist with a practice based in mixed media collage and photography. I began running workshops as part of my art practice in 2017 trialling a project called Scan/Exchange which aimed to engage women of colour to document personal archives focusing on female presences. This project has since grown to encompass different groups but always centres around vernacular imagery and the importance of personal archives as historical documents.
I'm thrilled to be working with AEE. After many years working in an operational position within an arts charity and gallery focussing on Race, Rights, and Representation. I'm ecstatic to be working more actively within the community and hopefully using my skills and experience to have a positive effect within young people's lives. Art has had such a transformative effect on my life and I'm keen to facilitate spaces where people can access art in an informal, encouraging, and inclusive environment.
Music is a huge part of my life, it's key to my well-being as well as my art practice so it's something I'm involved with in a variety of ways. Following on from this theme I have recently trained to be a group sound therapist where I facilitate sound baths for relaxation but I'm also studying to become a 1:1 sound therapist so that I can use sound to help people in a more focused therapeutic way.
